Public Radio App App Reviews

Waste of Money

This app worked only on the very first radio station I chose. The problem is- I chose the wrong station. When I tried to correct that error, this app has not worked since. Nothing- the first station will not play, no station will play. Total waste of money.

Still not working as it should

I have owned this ap for probably close to a year. Ive seen NPR patch it and patch it, but there are still underlying problems that dont go away. I have used it over 3G and over Wi-Fi, and there are constant problems with buffering content that after this long, shouldnt be there anymore. This ap is too old to still be this buggy. It needs an update badly, Im tired of having something that I paid for not really work.

No good

Cant bookmark anything, and that stuff about the streaming is a bunch of hewy- it pauses to buffer almost immediately. I already deleted it, 2.99 down the toilet!

Worth Getting to access Public Radio content

I enjoy this Public Radio app and along with the free Public Radio app, With both apps, I can access all the wonderful Public Radio content that is out there. This app has a nice feature called bookmarks that enables you to bookmark shows or podcast that you want to access later. You can select stations that are your favor and have them on your opening screen saved and configured by you. You get access to On Demand content and have the ability to sort by three different options as you can see from the screen shots. You can share shows via e-mail. The live window shows you what is on and what will be on like a tv guide. I like the free Public Radio app better for searching or browsing stations by content or state, but that app with its additional features and functions that the free app doesnt have will enable you to access and find all the Public Radio content you could ever hope for. It is worth getting if you are a public radio addict or just a regular listener along with the free app. I recommend it.

Drops constantly, resumes w/advertisement

Cant use this as it is too frequently interrupted on my bike commute, even in areas with strong coverage. Always restarts with the same ad.

Inconsistent

Love the streaming audio and varied program choice. However this app is subject to frequent interruptions. Id rather have it working ALL of the time. After all, thats what I paid for.

Stay Current While Living Abroad

With the wide selection of programs, my favorites are All Things Considered and Morning Edition. Living in France, I want to keep up with human interest and news analysis across the pond. The connection drops sometimes, but I blame that on my own WiFi connection. The app is great for "On Demand" playing an entire show or selected parts of the program. I carry my phone with me from room to room and play and replay. The "Live" keeps me connected to stations in places where I grew up, lived or visited. I love the app.

Great, except when its not...

I love this app, but this app loves to crash! When it stays connected, it does everything its supposed to do, and I dig it. However, often on drives around town (with a consistent signal) it will not only pause to rebuffer (which I understand), but will frequently crash completely out of the app. Much of the time this will occur immediately after acquiring and buffering the signal, so I end up having to completely start over - several times in a row. If that issue could be sorted out, the rest is gravy.

The Best NPR App There Is

I have written many terrible reviews to the official NPR App . . . to no avail. I swear that they just dont care. I run in the morning and their App always closed down when it went into sleep mode. I came across this App and LOVE IT!!!!!!! I can now finaly listen to my NPR without crash. I highly recommned it!

NPR

Consistently cuts OFF- Why dont you fix it?????

Too buggy to use

I have yet to be able to actually listen to anything on this using a wifi connection that works fine with Tunein Radio, Stitcher and other such apps. If you search for a program, they give you yesterdays programs (e.g., PBS News Hour), not the current one. So, I added live streams that I knew where playing that show, but the list of live stations didnt work, so I wasnt able to switch between them except by deleting the currently "playing" one from my list. Playing was in quotes because even these never actually played anything, but buffered endlessly. Save your money!!!

Overall good

Overall good, but the stations schedule are out of date. I like how I can see several stations schedules at once (even if out of date).

Good enough

It needs an update but good for how I use it: Select several public radio stations across the country and listen to live radio stream in the time zone that provides the program you want. E.g you live on the East Coast and want to listen to Morning Edition at noon: Listen to Hawaii public radio. The pause/ stop control doesnt work well from the lock screen.

Cuts out while playing

I used to love this app - it worked great. But now each station I listen to cuts out after 2-5 min and I have to manually restart it. Really frustrating when listening to a story of interest. Also, some stations are no longer accessible at all with the app. I havent been able to get WCAI/WNAN in ages! Im finally giving up using this app.

Terrible

All kinds of problems with this app--sometimes programs dont load, arent updated promptly, cut off even with great wifi access, etc. I wish they would fix this, but so far, nope! (Also a dated design, bad UI, and mediocre UX.)

Worthless

This app worked great for more than a year but now it is completely worthless. It wont connect to the station and has stopped playing popular programs all together. Im very disappointed.

NPR app

This would be a 5 star app if it didnt cut off so often. Please update it.

I am in an abusive relationship with this app

I purchased this app because it boasted an alarm function. That function is buggy, unreliable, and functional about 50% of the time...not what you want to rely on to wake you up. When it does work, it stops playing after about 2 minutes. On the up side, however, the long buffer allows you to skip things you dont want to hear, and also transfer from wifi to 3G without interruption, like some apps do.

Not easy to find live streams

How in the heck do i find a list of live streams? When first accessing this app, it asked me to select a favorite station, which I did, but now when I try to use the live button to access other live streams, it does nothing. I read the help info but it was of no use. I bought this to put on a second iPod Touch I own when I had to send my first one in for repair. On my first one, I had public radio app that worked very well and was easy to navigate. I wanted to put it on my 2nd iPod but cant seem to find it. This one seemed closest to the other one but now Im frustrated because I cant find a list of live streams. So, based on its lack in intuitiveness, and the price ($2.99), I am giving it two stars.

Terrible.

The broadcasts through this app are terribly spotty. You often cant listen to a program for even 30 seconds at a time without the app hanging. There is no apparently connection to the program or time you are listening. It is more frustrating than it is worth. If there is ANY other option out there, use it instead.
